Stories I Only Tell My Friends - Rob Lowe

Just finished Stories I Only Tell My Friends, and enjoyed it immensely.  From the very first page, the material is well-written and entertaining.  No big reveals, as Lowe skims over the highs and lows of his career from an insightful perspective, without delving into the nitty-gritty details.  Truth told, you don't need that level of detail.  If you grew up with the Brat Pack, you know about the women, the sex tape, The Outsiders, Austin Powers, The West Wing.  What Lowe manages to accomplish is to give you the history of where he comes from, the road of indulgence he took while coming of age in Hollywood, the determination and diligence with which he's led his life and achieved his goals, and the path of recovery that led him to what appears to be a man of substance.  Stories is not a National Enquirer expose you'd expect of today's Kardashians or famous-for-being-famous celebrities.  It is a birdseye view of one man's life, culminating in a successful career and appreciation not only for his commercial successes, but more importantly for the wife, children, and family who keep him grounded as an adult.
